Opening Remarks

This blog is named after the poem, When to the Sessions of Sweet Silent Thought, by William Shakespeare written in 1595 and publishes in 1609.

“When to the sessions of sweet silent thought
I summon up remembrance of things past,
I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought,
And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste.
Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow,
For precious friends hid in death's dateless night,
And weep afresh love's long since cancelled woe,
And moan the expense of many a vanished sight.
Then can I grieve at grievances foregone,
And heavily from woe to woe tell o'er
The sad account of fore-bemoanèd moan,
Which I new pay as if not paid before.
But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end.”

I’ve noticed a pattern in life that we are all inspired to do so many things but unfortunately lack the follow through. Whether we get bored, give up, something better comes along, or tragedy unexpectedly interrupts our trajectory; our passions tend to fizzle and that dear friends is the real tragedy! Through retrospection, I hope that this blog will allow me to easily look back on the things that once whispered motivation to my soul and as a result continually reignite my passions.

I am inspired by art, poetry, sermons, music, books, and the stories told by friends, family, and sometimes complete strangers. I look forward to sharing those things here.

  1. Thanks for showing me what value can come with followthrough in friendships; if its committing to honesty, authenticity, or just a cup of warm liquid on an early Tuesday morning, I know I can depend on you. Thanks for starting this conversation here too; can't wait to see where it leads!
